Float Effect Canvas Prints - Contemporary Wall Art Handmade in Derry

What Is a Float Effect Canvas?

A standard canvas print wraps the image around the frame edges. A float effect canvas does something different. The print is mounted on a deep backing frame with a deliberate gap around all four sides, creating a shadow line that makes the piece appear to lift away from the wall.

The result sits somewhere between a traditional canvas and a framed print. It has the warmth and texture of canvas without the visual weight of a frame border, and the clean architectural edge of gallery installation without the formality of glass and moulding. It’s a format that works particularly well as a feature piece: a single bold statement on a chimney breast, above a bed, or in an open-plan space where the art needs to hold its own.

Every float effect canvas in our collection is printed in-house in Derry using colour-calibrated technology and fade-resistant inks, hand-mounted on a solid deep frame, and sent out ready to hang.

Frequently Asked Questions

What exactly is a float effect canvas?
A float effect canvas is a print mounted on a deep frame that creates a visible gap between the artwork and the wall, giving the impression that the piece is floating. It combines the warmth of canvas with a sleek, contemporary finish.

How is a float effect canvas different from a standard canvas print?
With a standard canvas print, the image wraps around the sides of the frame. With a float effect canvas, the print sits proud of a deeper backing frame, leaving a shadow gap around all four edges for a more sculptural, gallery-style look.

Are float effect canvases ready to hang?
Yes. Every piece arrives fully assembled with hanging hardware included, ready to go straight on your wall.

How long will my canvas last?
Our prints use fade-resistant inks designed to maintain their colour for decades, provided they're kept away from prolonged direct sunlight.
